Knowing Your Strength

So I've been pretty consistent with my Yoga practice.
In fact it is the best part of my day by far.
Like I've said before I've dropped a whole lotta weight, and I am eating better.
But this time I thought I had enough strength for a distance run I didn't last anymore than five minutes.
Kind of surprising when I can do an hours worth of Yoga without too much trouble.
The walks are more enjoyable but I yearn to be that 19 year old kid again going for miles on end without a stop.
I was never into lifting or arm work in general it was never the kind of pain I enjoy.
I've been using a 2 gallon bottle of water in reps of 100 for each arm for a light arm exercise.
We do have weights laying around but again it never felt good to do that kind of work.
Iaijitsu has been more enjoyable since I can use some of my yoga and combat stances for a good workout.
My blade is starting to show more signs of wear, little black rust spots are starting to pop up.
You can sand and polish the blade if you want to get rid of them but I don't have either and I am not sure if there is a right or wrong way to do it.
It also has started bending near the kissaki and seeing that tempts me to run it into the ground.
Fortunately I've been able to overcome that destructive impulse and I know when I was younger I would have beat the hell out of it.
Back to knowing your strength I thought I could really run a good 3 miles or so, but my body is still not ready for such a distance.
It also took quite a bit out of me, I was sore and tired the next day.
Not that running is the most strenuous exercise but it made me aware there is still a lot more I have to do to get in really good shape.
I still have quite a gut and that too will be hard to shrink down.
Breathing exercises and some of the yoga poses help but if I want to really kill the gut I'll have to focus on abdominal work alone a few days out of the week.
Something I've learned about Yoga is that sometimes you have to ask your body, is that too much? Can you do that exercise? Are you tight today?
or even the polar opposite, Do you need more work? Want to go a bit further? Is there something more intense I can do for you?
It may sound silly but this is actually a really good way to figure out what your strengths are.
On that note going to wrap this up and run in the rain!
