Building Back The Guitar
September flew by California turned out to be a really good move. I put together the guitar way ahead of schedule. There were still structural issues the tail block loosened up behind and one of the ribs came loose. The soundboard came off twice because of torque from the headstock.
I had to reglue it twice and I installed a woodscrew in order to pin down the soundboard.
Overall for a second guitar it sounded more like a sitar.
I also lost some of the waist which made it look tight and asymmetrical.
The quality of the guitar is still amateur and I am considering just keeping it as a demo piece.
I bought materials for a third guitar from Dave the luthier with an experimental idea in mind. It was a little harder to build then I thought making a few mistakes on cutting and shaping the soundhole.
I expected the build to be that much better knowing what mistakes I made with the last guitar.
I thought to be more sure, more accurate in regards to measurements.
Measure twice, cut once.
I was glad having the guitar built to clean up the shop which had accumulated so much dust, and wood flakes over the month to spend the remainder of the day at the beach.
I took a few photos as usual and gave my business card out to a girl I met at the beach.
I have not heard from her but you never know if someone will come back.
I turned 30, yes Thirty and I feel my age creeping up on me, I am slower, I can't run as fast, I can't endure as much pain.
I thought to take my grandma and my uncle out for a dance night for the three of us.
But my uncle pulled out last minute and I was left with a rental I didn't know what to do with.
I ended up stopping by Dave's for a few more materials I needed and just driving around for a few hours.
My little cousin whose actually quite taller then me graduated middle school and is now twelve.
We got together for his birthday too, my Aunt came down from San Francisco, I put together a short letter and a $20 bill. A lot of his friends were over and they all were having fun playing Fibbage.
I was laughing hysterically the whole time because their answers were so off the wall.
After an early dinner and cake we wound up going bowling which I did good the first half and by the second half fell out of the zone scratching most of the remainder of the game.
I was for some time planning on building him a baseball bat and I bought a blank of white ash wood to start the work. I started trying to cut or chisel it since I have no lathe but the ash turned out to be really tough so I am going to try sanding it with the orbital sander.
I was a little scared about how my grandmother was acting.
She kept answering these calls from cold callers, I could excuse it for elderly dementia but there was a part of me that was aggravated because I felt like she was deflecting something.
"Why don't you talk to me if you need someone to talk to?"
I wanted to put together a book together before her memory is completely gone.
I had quite a few dreams in September which I now can't recall.
Keepin' it square.
